Should Immigration Benefit Communities - 824 Words

Will immigration benefit communities? Immigration is a sensitive subject in many countries, especially in the USA presently. First, when an immigrant becomes successful this can keep those positions away from natural born citizens. This can anger people who see immigration as a problem. Second, when people are allowed to immigrate, most natural born citizens don’t know that it actually benefits them. Marshall Fitz in April 16, 2013 of The New York Times reports that â€Å"an average wage increase after legalization of around 15 percent† which means that the natural born citizen’s fear is irrational. Yet, the added increase in the economy has been reported as â€Å"immigration benefits mainly the immigrants† (Vaughan 2014). I feel these worries are exaggerated. For instance, most immigrants and native-born citizens do not compete for the same job. Most likely they are working two different parts of the same job because each has their own unique set of skill s that benefit a project (Kugler, Oakford 2013). This is debatable. Steven Camarota states in the Center for Immigration Studies that there is a direct drain on natural born citizens when immigration happens but that any well-educated immigrant is actually a boost to the economy. Dealing with the issue of immigrations is tricky and will require deep planning. In my opinion, immigration laws should be fair and allow well prepared immigrants to get their citizenship because this will help the USA’s economy.
